The Drama on the Vine Players of Calvary Chapel Vineland present their first annual Summer Theatre Family Comedy at the Calvary Chapel Playhouse on August 5, 6, and 7, with 7:00pm evening performances and a special 1:30pm Saturday matinee. The play is written and directed by Kathryn "Miss Kathy" Ross of Pageant Wagon Productions and continues the family-friendly live theatre tradition at the Calvary Chapel Playhouse begun by Miss Kathy in 2005 with the Pageant Wagon Players Old Fashioned Melodrama Summer Family Theatre productions.
"Our Pageant Wagon Players had a terrific five year run, and in that time built up a committed audience," says Ross, "but, many of my former actors have moved on in their college and career life and keeping the whole troupe together for another year would be impossible." Enter Calvary Chapel, the host facility for the past summer productions, with a complimentary music and technical team - plus a whole new roster of multi-talented actors to fill casting needs. "Calvary Chapel was positioned to open a drama ministry arm of its own, so the Drama on the Vine Players debuted in April 2010 with the Tales from the Vine series."
But summer, Ross promises, is all about family friendly fun in live theatre entertainment. This summer's show is titled: Kit & Kaboodles! - A News-worthy Family Comedy, and boasts a cast of thirteen ranging in age from eleven to fifty-somethings. As the story opens, audiences enter the world of newspaper publishing at the Kit & Kaboodles Newstand where Pappy O'Donnell and his band of streetwise Newsies keep folks informed - and the plot twisted - in a fast paced story of sibling rivalries, insufferable suffragettes, clever and convincing disguises, talking flowers, and hilarious headlines - with the Virginia Reel tossed in for good measure. The new Drama on the Vine Players tell a story to tickle funny bones and warm hearts for the whole family!
The cast features returning Pageant Wagon Players familiar to audiences: Bethany Finn of Vineland as Jewel Newell, and David Lord of Goshen as Jameson; plus Drama on the Vine Players: Russell Sterger of Vineland as Rufus C. Newell; Beth Robertson as Natalie Stark and Jim Robertson as Joey, both of Hammonton; Audrey Gallagher of Franklinville as Bridgid O'Donnell; Ed Ross of Vineland as Pappy O'Donnell; Karyn Brown of Millville as Pinchley; Carey Walden of Vineland as Angelica; Rachael Stowman of Delmont as Lily; Jared Gallagher of Millville as Sebastian; Mike McCarthy of Vineland as Johnnie-Lee; and Dawson Coyle of Williamston as Pip.
All seats for the performances are at a family friendly cost of $5.00 each. The Holy Grounds Cafe at the Playhouse will be open with a selection of specialty coffees, lattes, and smoothies, plus snacks for sale with the popular $1 for the endless cup of coffee and water.
